Does it really matter?

“Beware of the thing of which you say,  ‘Oh, that doesn’t matter much.’

The fact that it does not matter to you may mean that it matters a very great deal to God.

Nothing is a light matter with a child of God.

How much longer are some of us going to keep God trying to teach us one thing? He never loses patience.”

Oswald Chambers,

in Run Today’s Race from The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers.

A matter of loyalty

“The strictness of the rejection that Jesus Christ demands of me allows for nothing to remain in my life but my Lord, myself, and a sense of desperate hope.

He says that I must let everyone else come or go, and that I must be guided solely by my relationship to Him.

When your loyalties conflict, always obey Jesus Christ whatever the cost.

Once the call of God comes to you, start going and never stop.”

Oswald Chambers,

from the My Utmost for His Highest Perpetual Calendar.

Finding the will of God

“How am I going to find out what the will of God is?

In one way only: by not trying to find out.

If you are born again of the Spirit of God, you are the will of God, and your ordinary common-sense decisions are God’s will for you unless He gives an inner check. When He does, call a halt immediately and wait on Him. Be renewed in the spirit of your mind that you may make out His will, not in your mind, but in practical living.”

Oswald Chambers,

in Not Knowing Whither from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

Our worship service today

Invocation: Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

As we once more enter God’s presence may our hearts indeed be open to the moving of the Holy Spirit’s being with us. To anyone who may be visiting we extend to you a heartfelt “Welcome” and pray that your time with us will be an enjoyable and beneficial one. After the service we invite you to stay behind if you have the time, and have a cuppa and a chat with everyone.

Our Worship Leader today is our pastor, Grant Spangenberg, and when it comes time for us to share in the Lord’s Supper together our leader will be Cleve Brisbane.

This morning’s message from God’s Word, “Forgiveness”, will be brought to us by the Chairman of our church Board, Paul Sandford.

The prayer written at the altar of Coventry Cathedral – All have sinned and come short of the glory of God

The Hatred . . . which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class;
Father, forgive.

The Greed . . . which exploits the labours of men and lays waste to earth;
Father, forgive.

Our Envy . . . of the welfare and happiness of others;
Father, forgive.

Our Indifference . . to the plight of the homeless and the refugee;
Father, forgive.

The Lust . . . which uses for ignoble ends, the bodies of men and women;
Father, forgive.

The Pride . . . which leads us to trust in ourselves and not in God;
Father, forgive.

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

(St Paul to the Ephesians)

Doing God’s will

“The joy of Jesus lay in knowing that every power of His nature was in such harmony with His Father that He did His Father’s will with delight.

Some of us are slow to do God’s will; we do it as if our shoes were iron and lead; we do it with a great sigh and with the corners of our mouths down, as if His will were the most arduous thing on earth.

But when our wills are rectified and brought into harmony with God, it is a delight, a superabounding joy, to do God’s will.”

Oswald Chambers,

in The Moral Foundations of Life from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.
